Nukedit Hosting Experiment
Jan 18 2005
Ever wondered why there are hosting companies out there that charge
such low prices for their hosting? The authors of "Nukedit" the free,
fast content management system did, so we conducted an experiment to
find out why. We wanted somewhere cheap!
They tested 5 of the 1000's of hosts out there and signup up to some of their hosting deals.
Interesting Findings:
- One hosting company didn't know what "ping" meant. (It is a simple programs that tests if a website is working)
- One company doubled the marked price when it came to paying because "we were a business" Nukedit is free! What business is that!
- 2 out of the 5 companies did not use a firewall to protect itself
- 4 of the companies had just 1 staff member.
- In
all the hosting companies staff we spoke to, we found ourselves having
to help THEM out. Telling them how to fix a problem or allow different
things to work.
Somewhere for users of Nukedit was needed and the hosting companies
tested were far from reliable enough. So, they built their own hostimg
company. Datalian.
Windows hosting is their speciality so if you need hosting for an HTML,
ASP or ASP.NET website, then go for it and don't waste your time on
crazy experiments like this one.
